Important Notice for Contractors & Residents
The Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors has announced new state laws affecting permits and inspections for certain construction work. These laws come from the 2025 Louisiana Legislative Session and apply to all parishes.
Act 239 - Requires permits and inspections for roof construction and re-roofing of residential and commercial structures for projects starting on or after August 1, 2025.
Act 422 - Makes it a violation of state law for contractors to:
- Begin work without a permit
- Begin work before the permit is issued
- Misrepresent the value or scope of work
- Fail to get inspections as required by law
The Enforcement Division of the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors will ensure contractors comply with these laws.
Important: These are state laws, not city ordinances.
Contractors and homeowners are encouraged to review the new requirements and ensure all projects comply with Acts 239 and 422.
