The mission of the Ordinance Enforcement Department is to promote and maintain a safe and desirable living and working environment.  We help maintain and improve the quality of our community by administering a fair and unbiased enforcement program to correct violations of municipal codes. 
 
Ordinances that are regularly enforced:
 
Sec 5-290:  Order to demolish or repair.  After a hearing on the matter, if in the opinion of the city council the facts justify it, an order shall be entered condemning the building or structure and ordering that it be demolished or removed within a reasonable delay period. If repairs will correct the dilapidated, dangerous or unsafe condition, the city council may grant the owner the option of making the repairs, but in such case the general nature or extent of the repairs to be made, the time thereof, and the defects to be corrected shall be specified in the decision of the city council. The decision and order shall be in writing and shall be final unless appealed from within five days as provided in R.S. 33:4763, et seq.
 
Sec 11-10:  Garbage and trash containers shall be placed for collection of the garbage or trash on or near the curb line in front of the residences, on the days designated by the proper authority of the city for the collection of garbage and trash, and in a appropriate place by a business establishment.  Containers shall be placed for the removal of their contents before the hour of 7 am on the days on which regular collection will be made, and the containers may be placed out during the night preceding the day fixed for collection.  Empty containers shall be removed the same day of garbage and trash pickup.  Heavy items of trash and large quantities of trash shall not be placed for collection near the street before arrangements have been made with the city or any private collector for collection thereof.
 
Sec 12-16:  All grass and weeds over 12 inches in height shall be cut.
 
Sec 12-32:  Junked motor vehicles and/or any junked item shall be deemed and is hereby declared a public nuisance.
 
Sec 19-02:  Every outdoor swimming pool or family pool shall be completely surrounded by a fence or wall not less than six feet in height, which shall be constructed as not to have any openings, holes, or gaps larger than 4 inches in any dimension except for doors and gates.
 
Sec 19-03:  All gates and doors opening through or into the enclosure of each outdoor swimming poor or family pool shall be equipped with a self-closing and self-latching device for keeping the gate or door securely closed at all times when not in actual use, except that the door of any dwelling which forms a part of the enclosure need not be so equipped.
 
Sec 19-06:  All swimming pools located in the city of Sulphur shall be maintained in a safe and sanitary condition.  Swimming pool maintenance shall include the draining of the pool and chemical and equipment maintenance of the pool to prevent stagnation and other health hazards.  it shall be the responsibility of the owner, occupant, or agent to ensure that the pool is maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition.
