The City of Sulphur has ordinances in regards to chickens and other fowl being kept in the city limits. The ordinance(s) reads as follows:

  • 4-4. - Same—Fowl. No poultry or fowl shall be permitted to run at large within the city.
  • 4-6. - Fowl, rabbits, swine—Proximity to buildings. Any person keeping chickens, livestock, ducks, geese or other poultry or fowl, or rabbits or swine, within the city, shall, keep the poultry, livestock, fowl, rabbits or swine within pens or other enclosures which shall not be nearer than fifty (50) feet from any property line used for either residential or commercial purposes.

Applications for a variance shall be considered by the city council on a case-by-case basis.

C    Sec.   4-7. - Cleanliness of premises.(a) Premises where animals, poultry, fowl, rabbits or swine are kept and maintained within the city shall be maintained in a sanitary condition and shall be kept clean and in good repair at all times. Floors, yards, or lots where animals, poultry, fowl, rabbits or swine are kept shall be graded and drained. The accumulation on the premises of such materials on which flies may breed or rats may feed is prohibited; further, the premises shall be maintained so as to prevent offensive odors, offensive odors from the premises being hereby prohibited.

Sec. 8-1. - Unnecessary noise. (Like Roosters, added as an example)

(4) The keeping of any animal, bird or fowl which by causing frequent or long-continued noise shall disturb the comfort or repose of any person in the vicinity
